A New Year: 2014 Blogging Goals

In addition to my running goals for 2014 {still trying to sort those out…stay tuned}, I have personal, professional, and blogging goals.  I find that goals help keep me grounded and push me to be a better version of myself.  I thought I would share a few of the goals I have for Lisa Runs for Cupcakes in the upcoming year.

Blogging Goals

1.)     Focus on consistency and frequency of blog posts.  Since starting my new job in November, my blogging has gone by the wayside.  I want my readers to keep coming back for more and the only way to do that is to be more reliable.  Now, to set an achievable goal, I would like to post at least two to three times a week.

2.)    Engage new readership.  To help get the ball rolling with this, I would like to connect with more bloggers.  I tend to read the same group of bloggers and only comment on their posts every now and then.  To increase my readership, I hope to branch out, meet new faces, and converse/ leave comments on a more regular basis.   This likely won’t be something that I can do every day but I hope to work on my engagement at least three days per week.

3.)    Pay attention to my numbers.  I have to admit that I do not watch my analytics at all, especially since I made the move from Blogger to WordPress over the summer.  Now, I don’t want to get wrapped up in the numbers but I would like to at least take note of which posts are performing well and which ones are not.  That way, I can gauge what my followers are interested in reading.  Want to see more or less of something, please shoot me a message.

I think those goals should keep me busy!  If you are a blogger, do you set blog-related goals for the New Year?  Plus, leave your blog names below so that I can be sure to follow!

  1. I’m still so very new to the blogging world so I have not set any goals other then to keep posting away and hopefully I will gain some followers. There is so much to learn and reading tons of blogs help me do so, so those are my goals 🙂

  2. I have blogging goals in my head but nothing I've put pen to paper on (or on the interwebs, lol). I do want to be more consistent in my posting schedule and try to interact with others as best I can. Outside of that I'd have to think about it!

    • Yep, this is the first year I set blogging related goals. I felt like I needed to do it because the past few months I have been a slacker. That's totally cool with me, but I am one of those people that needs to have things in writing in order to stay accountable to it!

  3. Those are awesome goals. I need to set some blogging goals myself, especially with my consistency. I may follow in your footsteps here and set a few blogging goals for myself, I’ve only focused on my running goals and a couple personal goals. There is so much to learn still for blogging!

  4. I did not set blogging goals as a part of my 2014 goals this year. But one of my goals was to disconnect more, which is kind of related to my blog. I spent a good amount of time engaging on social media and I want to spend less time on social media, but utilize my time smarter. So that will affect my blog because I'll be looking for ways to engage with the blogging community I've formed but not let it take over! Easier said than done. I think your goals sound great 🙂

    • I think the first year I blogged, I was not good at finding a social media balance at all. This year, I have been much better so I felt that I could safely add in some blogging goals without it taking over my life. It is so tough to have the happy medium between engagement and not spending half your life on the web!

Hmmm…interesting, I never really thought to set any blogging goals. I do think I'd like to switch over to a self-hosted site at some point and maybe a new design, but that's more of a budget thing than anything I think since I'm not sure I want to do it myself.

    • I made the switch last year and I am still trying to learn everything about WordPress. I need to be more saavy about that but it is one of those things that always takes the back burner. I also paid someone to make the switch so that I could save myself the heartache of screwing it up!

  6. Hey Lis! Happy New Year my beautiful friend! May this year bring you joy, laughter and health. I do the exact thing with my blog. My family will always be my priority, so the blog gets shoved over to the side. I am forever loyal to you, 3 blogs posts a week, or one a month, I am here reading! Hope we cross paths this year. xoxoxo

  7. I try to post 4 times a week, if life doesn't get in that way and try to interact with other bloggers. I just started using Bloglovin to help with that a bit.
I like you goals because they seem strong, but manageable.

I set blog goals for 2014 too! I did a whole post on my blog goals as well as running/mileage goals. My big one for my blog is to increase reader interaction.

  9. This is such a good idea! My only blogging goal was to "keep blogging" so I think any goal will be a good idea for me 🙂 One thing I do want to do is more giveaways because I did my first giveaway last month and literally doubled my followers! Plus I found a bunch of new bloggers to connect with through the giveaway blog hop that I did. Good luck in 2014!

    • I've done a lot of giveaways in the past and sometimes the people that enter them aren't around to stay. I always hope that's not the case but there is usually a fluctuation for giveaways. Happy New Year!

Blogging is what I consider my 3rd JOB! Haha, but once you organize a schedule and routine, it's FUN!

    • When I first started I was in a much better routine. It always seems to get derailed for work, home and the kiddo. But, I'm totally cool with that! Blogging is for fun and not my top priority. Unless it can pay the bills like my full-time job, that's just the reality of it.

  11. I am new to the blogging world. Since my posts are mostly based on research in Sports Psychology, I hope to have one content post and one personal post per week. I find it hard to keep up when people post very often.

    My blog is psyched2run.blogspot.com

I hope you’ll check it out. I’m always looking for feedback! I look forward to reading more on your blog as well.

  13. I think the most important thing/goal in blogging is to set goals.

Engage new readership – I think this one is very important. Content without readership is almost zero, just like readership without content is not possible.

I love your goals! Thanks for sharing!
