After a year of ups and downs in running, I feel like my holiday gift guide truly reflects my favorite items of 2014.  You can definitely tell that while I still enjoy running, recovery has become a really important part of my year. And, if you are like me, you still have a whole lot of shopping to do with not a lot of time left!  So, for the athlete in your life, here are some of my personal favorites!

  3. I had a lot of ups and downs in my running this year, too! I feel your pain on that one!! It is a toss up! I did my first ultra – a 6 hour timed run (33 miles!) and I ran my 15th NYC marathon so I am guaranteed entry for life. 2015 I want to try some new races and get back under 3:30 in the marathon. I have not been under 3:35 since 2007.

  4. I spent much of 2014 injured but am proud that I discovered other fitness I enjoy besides running and have kept on track and plan to come back in 2015 even stronger than before!

  11. I think my biggest accomplishment of 2014 was my PR in my half marathon! I trained really hard and was able to hit my goal!

  12. so much awesomeness in your gift guide!!! I think my biggest accomplishment must be that stepping outside my box and running on not one but 2 ultra relay teams. All my races – including my first TRAIL half mara and then 4 25k trail races – kept pushing limits and getting me to try newer distances and races. And culminated in me running a relay race in which my legs (all ran within the span of 28 hours) added up to over 36 miles. It's been a year of trying new things and spreading my wings! Feeling pretty good about all my accomplishments actually! yay!!

  13. In 2014 I kept up a steady and regular exercise routine. In 2015 I'm hoping to add some new outdoor experiences to my belt!

    A friend talked me into doing my first 5K on June 1st and I've been hooked ever since. I did my last "live" 5K last week and I have shaved over ten minutes off my time in six months! I couldn't stop smiling when I got my official time receipt. I definitely have a long way to go, but I am proving to myself that I can do anything if I work hard for it.

  20. biggest accomplishment was completing 4 HM's in 36 days! After that, I have taken a few months to focus on strength training instead. Ready to get back to running after the 1st of the year and hope to complete 8 HM in 2015!

Sounds crazy I know, but when we moved I realized there was not a gym close enough to make it there for my 5am alarm. So, I got a treadmill off craigslist and fell in low with fitnessblender.com and have been having so much fun working out in my basement!

  25. Biggest accomplishment in 2014? Qualified for Half Fanatics in November as HF#9474! In 2015 I'm looking to volunteer more often (I'm in as a medical volunteer for the WDW Marathon) and run a sub 3 hour half (yeah, I'm slow, but I get out there!).

  43. What a great list of gifts! My greatest accomplishment in 2014 running my first half-marathon, especially since it almost didn't happen. I injured myself in a fall with 6 weeks to go before my first race. I still hadn't run more than 7 miles–ever. Waiting to hear if I had to go into the ER for x-rays was the longest hour of my year but it just made the race that much more special when I crossed the finish line.

  45. My biggest accomplishment was running a half marathon in honor of my Mother while raising funds for the Alzheimer's Association! My goal for 2015 is to do my first half marathon in California as we are moving there next year.

  52. 2014 was a big running year for me. After doing So Cal Ragnar I was motivated to do a full marathon. 4 months of commitment and training paid off in September.   53. 2014 accomplishment? Completing America's Toughest Road Race (well, half of it!) – The Blue Ridge Half Marathon. Woot! In 2015 I want to qualify for half fanatics.

  54. In 2013 I had a hard time walking 1/4 of a mile without feeling like I was going to give up. My shins hurt. My chest was on fire. My sides ached. I was a mess. In the beginning of 2014 I set a lofty goal of completing 3 half marathons and becoming a Half Fanatic. Well 9/27/14 rolled around and I completed the most hilly half ever (thank you Amish Half), then another on 10/25, and another on 11/2. The next weekend I submitted my info and officially became the Half Fanatic I said I would become at the beginning of this year! My goal for 2015 is to complete a half marathon every month (preferably a live event) and work on my PRs!

    Hey Lisa! My biggest accomplishment in 2014 was overcoming depression, through fitness, by conquering my fastest half marathon and relay to-date and incorporating crosstraining into my daily routine/regimen. My goal for 2015 is to complete a sub 4:30 marathon in western NC and cut back on my daily sugar intake (processed and natural). 😉 Cheers!

  88. I made it through my first marathon this year. I'm hoping for a healthier glut/knee/foot year with strength training and cross-training.

  89. I ran my first half marathon in 2014! I also became AFAA certified and zumba certified which was a huge thing for me since I did it with a broken arm (first time snowboarding and I broke it and lost my first job temporarily too!) a lot of firsts!

    My biggest accomplishment for 2014 is that I quit smoking June 20th and haven't had even 1 some since then. In 2015 I plan on increasing my daily 1/2 mile walk to 1 mile.
