Friday Five: Looking Back a Decade

Today, I’m linking up with the Friday Five crew, Mar, Cynthia, and Courtney for a post that takes you and shares what I was up to ten years ago.  Looking back a decade sounded like too much fun to pass up and a great opportunity to reminisce….

It’s honestly so hard to believe how much has changed in those ten years of life.  I graduated from college in Rhode Island, worked as a paralegal until I moved across the country from Connecticut to Texas to start graduate school.  My family thought I was nuts because I picked up a baby Boston Terrier on the drive down to Texas… Best friend ever!  Next up, we got engaged.  I watched my then fiance deploy.  Planned an amazing Austin wedding with said fiance deployed.  We bought a house in Texas.  I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with my MSSW and got married in the same weekend.  Then it was on to work for Child Protective Services until I decided to switch gears and work in behavioral health research…  Yea, my last day of work at CPS is when I found out I was pregnant.  Enter motherhood.  I became a mother to the coolest kid I know and watched my hubby deploy two shorts weeks after her birth. That was an interesting 9 months of survival mode with a new baby and a new job. We eventually welcomed Jake home only to move from Texas to Maryland.  It was during my quick stint in MD that I started this lovely little blog.  Before long, the military had us moving again. It was on to New York to find yet another job and home.  Currently, we are so thankful to live close to home, Connecticut, and have our little bean soak in the time with her relatives before we make our next move.  Nope, I’m not quite ready to share that doozy with the interwebs.  And, just thinking about all of that makes my head hurt.

But, back to the point of this post.  So, what five things were most important to me in 2005?  A decade ago, I was enjoying the leisurely college life and soaking up my junior and senior year.  I was taking full-time classes and working as a nanny and paralegal during those years.  But, seriously, as I look back now, I wonder what I did with all that free time on my hands!  I made some amazing friends and went to school in the absolutely gorgeous location of Newport, Rhode Island.  It was fabulous – think Panera lunch dates, walks on the Cliff Walk, and lots of parties. And, since Jake and I were in a long distance relationship, I spent my fair share of time traveling to West Point and Kentucky.

2005

Boy have times changed!  I can’t wait to see where another decade will bring me and my family!

What were you up to in 2005?
