#TrainwithKohls: Timex Ironman Run X20 Digital GPS Watch Review and Giveaway

Disclosure:  Today’s post is sponsored by Kohl’s.  Many thanks to Kohl’s for helping me introduce my readers to the Timex Ironman Run x20 GPS Watch.  As always, all opinions are my own. Now, it’s your turn to #trainwithKohls!

Timex Ironman Run X20 Digital GPS WatchWhen I first started running again in 2010, I had one pair of compression shorts, one pair of capris and some old cotton t-shirts from high school track meets.  At first, I wasn’t sure if I was really going to stick with running so I didn’t want to go out and buy a lot of new gear.  The thought of purchasing a GPS watch wasn’t concern.  I knew that running was an old love of mine but I wanted to make sure I stuck with it before splurging on some new pieces.  Well, as you can tell from this blog, it stuck.  And, it stuck in a major way.  And, I started treating myself to pieces of gear and running shoes.  Yet, one of the big purchases that scared me was my very first GPS watch.

So, with my lack of tech savvy and fear of purchasing my first GPS watch in mind, I thought I would share some reasonably priced options from Kohl’s that are perfect for runners looking to break into using a GPS watch for their training.  The Timex Ironman Run X20 Digital GPS Watch is one of the many Timex watch options offered by Kohls.  If you are looking for another brand of GPS watch, the Kohls active watches collection also contains some other favorites such as Garmin, Polar, and Soleus.

The Timex Ironman Run X20 Digital GPS Watch is perfect for the runner that is just starting to track their progress, is interested in purchasing their very first GPS watch and is looking to move away from using a mobile phone app.  Plus, if you are like me, it is hard to fork over a big chunk of change when you are testing the waters.  The price on this watch is just right for starting out.  The Timex Ironman Run X20 is lightweight, isn’t bulky and rests well on the wrists.  As for the screen, you have to use the buttons to make your way through each of the features.  For those of you dabbling in interval training, you can set up options to allow you to for time or distance.  You are notified of the change between intervals with a beep.  And, most important of all, this watch gets a solid comparison for mileage next to my Garmin and Strava!  Accuracy equals happiness.

So, now I am sure you are thinking what are the downsides?  This watch isn’t for someone who wants all the tech bells and whistles.  The storage space maxes out at ten runs.  If you want to track your progress over an extended period of time, make sure that you jot these times and dates down.  Yes, this requires pencil and paper since this watch does not sync to any fitness apps.  The satellites also take their sweet time to connect.  I have this same problem with my other watches too… It just isn’t the most fun to sit around and wait to connect when you are eager to hit the pavement.  And, lastly, you cannot view your current pace.  During intervals, I especially like to take a look at my current pace to see what my perceived effort is compared to my current pace.

Oh, most definitely my Garmin 620. I didn't pay for it. My husband did…but still. It was an extravagant gift.

  38. The Timex is a nice GPS Watch, but I prefer the Fitbit Surge, which can also track your runs but also its an activity and sleep tracker. The last function is nice, if you want to see, if you are overtrained. Cause of the heart rate measuring during your sleep you can compare the heart rate charts from the last weeks and will see, if your heart rate is higher then normal.

  39. Love the watch. I recently bought a X20 and love it!
