Disclosure: Journal Menu provided me with a Running Journal in exchange for a product review. No additional compensation was received for this post. As always, all opinions are my own.
These days, there are tons of ways that you can track your fitness progress. From Strava to Daily Mile and Fitbits to Jawbones, there is a techie tracking device for everyone. And, if you are like me, while the online accountability tools are useful, there is just something about physically writing out my goals on paper that helps keep me accountable. I’m a huge fan of planners when it comes to my work and home life. With meetings, special events, and keeping track of family fun, I found my Erin Condren planner getting a little too crowded for my taste. It just didn’t seem right to smash all my training into two little lines at the bottom of my weekly work calendar. So, when Journal Menu reached out for me to test out their Running Journal, I happily agreed to see if it would fit my needs.
Journal Menu was kind enough to provide me with a customized running journal back in April. It’s been so upsetting to see it sit there as I struggled with some nagging injuries. Thankfully, I am officially back to training and utilizing my customized journal for my New York City Marathon Training! Journal Menu offers tons of different options when it comes to customizing your journal. From running to yoga to triathlon training, there is a journal option waiting for you. Journal Menu was incredibly helpful in the process of putting together the right look and feel of the journal. And, I was so happy with the beautiful design and layout. Inside, it is chock full of information. There are sections to outline your race goals, body measurements, 5k through marathon training plans, an interval training log, pace charts and a place to plan your race adventures and proudly log your personal records!
Check out these photos of some of the pages of the Running Journal from Journal Menu!
In the Running Journal, there is plenty of space to write about your pace, the weather and an extra area to include some notes about the run. Oh, and I especially love that there is a place to track your nutrition and cheats! Are you shocked that I struggle with sweets? It’s helpful to look back on a run and see what my nutrition looked like on a given day. Gee, maybe cupcakes aren’t the best pre-run fuel. Let’s save them for the post-race celebrations instead. And, my absolute favorite part of the journal is the motivational quote on the top of each page!

I use an excel spreadsheet to track our runs, but wife would love this journal. She says I am a nerd, but I know she likes the Tech stuff.
I track my fitness goals by posting on IG almost daily.
I use a running log website to track all my runs but I thinking having an area to really write out all my thoughts and goals with pen and paper could really benefit me. Thanks for introducing us to Journal Menu!
This.is.amazing. I need one in my life! While I know the trend is towards electronic devices, gadgets, online trackers, this mama loves a good old fashioned pen and paper journal~
I'm a pen and paper girl. I used to use websites like MyFitnessPal and SparkPeople, but I am not very good at going there and recording things.
I am trying so hard to lose 50lbs, so this journal would be perfect for me!
My recent post Mid-Week Bites #4
I usually keep track of my goals in a notebook.
I write down every single run, time and distance in a notebook!! Def old fashion!
I'm a pen and paper girl, supplemented with technical tracking as I use a Garmin, so I have those hard stats in the cyberworld, but keep my personal stats (how I felt, what I wore, etc.) in my Believe Journal. Would love to win this and give it a try though!!
My recent post That's The Point…
lso do track mileage electronically. But somehow writing the workouts are more motivating for me….
My recent post Canada Day: Moose Mountain Adventure in Pics!
I'm such a nerd – I have my Garmin Connect data from my runs, MapMyRun for manually logging cross training and strength workouts, but my bread and butter is a hand-written log which I print out annually, put in a binder that I keep next to my bed, and fill out every day as my official record for mileage, shoe mileage, times/PRs, etc. I also log in there how I feel during and after each run, new nutrition etc. I like having as much data (hard and soft) at hand as possible so when things go right or wrong I can look back and see what changed. It's been so helpful in the past that I just keep adding more detail each year.
My recent post About Last Night’s (Killer) Hills…
So cute! I need one of these… my workout journal is almost full!
I log with a running app, but the rest of my life is pen and paper.
I'm most excited to be tracking my goal of 2015 miles!
I love this!!!!
I just bought a notebook yesterday from Target, good old fashioned composition one to keep track of workouts and eats as I felt like I was spiraling out of control! I prefer the pen and paper to the apps.
I use an app to track my StrongLifts and I write my other workouts on a wall calendar.
Right now my tracking is really all done on my "Weekly Training Recaps" on my blog, but I'd really love to have a "hard copy" way to track my training plan and goals!
My recent post Favorite Things…Beach Edition!
I don't track my fitnss goals EVER!! but I really want to start.
I want to start counting and calculating EVERYTHING so I can keep up and get a good start on my weight.
I print off blank calendars and do a lot of filling in and crossing off.
I have always been a write-it-down girl, otherwise it never seeps into my brain!
I use a paper planner. Though I do admit to putting my training plan on my e-calendar so it's an actual appointment!
I track my runs via RunKeeper and manually in my 2014-2016 journal. My strength training is also tracked manually. I like the optionof manual as it is easier to return and view the past days. I am currently training for my 2nd Full Marathon. Each time I complete a training run or strength session, I write down $1 as a reward. After the Marathon, I am going to treat myself to something well-deserved. I have no idea what that is yet, but I will enjoy the money collected from 3.5 months of training.
I am a journal girl- but I just use a notebook. I am OC and like writing items down. It sticks better for me
I track my fitness goals through a pre planned workout scheduled on my calendar and using my gps watch’a website and app for feedback
I utilize an excel spreadsheet with formulas…I'm a SUPER NERD.
I am so not a tracker, no wonder I don't improve! I'm trying to do app tracking but something physical might help me get/stay motivated.
I track goals online using the fitbit dashboard!
Right now…? I'm all over the place! I have an app on my phone, a couple of websites and FB groups, use a bit of FB posting, and have toyed with the idea of organizing my written notes in one place. Can I say how much I *need* this?!
