What’s in my gym bag? Georgia Edition

How on earth is it already November?! With moving to Georgia and starting a new job, I still remain active on social media but I feel as though this blog space hasn’t quite garnered the attention it deserves.  I have quite a few race recaps and happenings for 2018 so stay tuned!

In the meantime, let’s just say that summer running in Georgia is not my favorite and I’m still adjusting to the temperatures. And, I find it highly unlikely that I will start enjoying running in the heat and humidity anytime soon. Fingers crossed and hoping that next summer will get a little bit easier as I adjust to living here. Plus, we won’t be moving next summer – THANK GOODNESS! It has become a little bit too much of a routine over here! So, I thought I would share some of the products that make my “new life” aka living and running in Georgia slightly more tolerable.  These few things are now taking up residence in my gym bag.

Body Glide: I’m a longtime fan of using Body Glide to preventing chaffing, probably since starting running half marathons in 2010. Now, with the move to the southeast, we are on a whole new level of being best friends. I seriously don’t leave home without it here in low-country. I have never gone through so much in my life. Although, I will admit that I can’t leave it in the car like I did while living in the northeast. I have to make sure I actually take my gym bag into my office; I learned a messy lesson that day! It’s definitely my preferred chaffing solution; I like the convenience and no mess application.  Plus, it goes on in a thin coat and is sweat resistant.

Sven Can See: So, I really don’t mean to be stuck on this point. But, it is hot and steamy here in Georgia.  Even though I am a military spouse, I still consider home New England.  So, it was news to me that I might even need to consider a product to help with fog.  Yes, I’m talking about those moments when you go from freezing cold air conditioning to the sauna outside.  Sven Can See is this super handy spray that prevents fogging up! It’s pretty awesome to use on your sunglasses, pool goggles, you name it! All you have to do is spray it on, wipe, and you are good to go – no fog magic!

Nuun Hydration: Yes, I’m a huge Nuun fan and have loved their products ever since I found out about them during my pregnancy. Since moving to Georgia this summer, staying hydrated is quite the challenge. Nuun Performance is key for those hot, humid miles. During the day, I make sure I keep my Nuun vitamins within reach!  They are the perfect addition to my water since there are some pretty delicious flavor combinations!  Tangerine Lime and Strawberry Melon are two of the flavors you need to try!

Cheribundi: My new favorite recovery tool is Cheribundi! The lovely folks at Cheribundi provided me with the opportunity to take part in the 7-Day Challenge and I honestly fell in love with their products. Why was I the last person to find out about the restorative powers of tart cherries? The Relax Cheribundi is a combination of their original tart cherry juice, L-Theanine, and Valerian Root – a delicious bedtime ritual that will help you enhance your sleep. Since tart cherries are one of the few natural sources of melatonin, the combination of natural sleep aids makes me a complete convert! I love that this is a natural way to promote a better night’s sleep.

And for those of you looking to add a little more protein in your life or combat the mid-day “hanger” the Cheribundi Protein.  The benefits of tart cherries and whey protein are the perfect recovery tool after a strenuous workout.  Cheribundi Protein accelerates recovery and increases stamina – perfect for runners! It’s sweetened with Stevia and has the same 8 grams of whey protein but with 1/3 fewer calories and 1/3 less sugar as their traditional Rebuild blend.  Plus, I can find it at my local grocery store! Win, win!

Savannah Bee Company:  Last, but certainly not least are these Savannah bee honey wipes from the Savannah Bee Company.  They are the perfect edition to my gym bag since I love to wipe down after my runs and before picking up Cora from her after school program.  This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of items that this local company sells.  Every honey product you can imagine fills the beautiful storefront on Broughton in Savannah.  From health and beauty products made from royal jelly to mead making kits, they have it all!

Speaking of Savannah, I have some exciting news to share with my readers!  Hint, hint, if you follow me on Facebook you may already know what I’m talking about.  Stay tuned!  And, for those of you that live in the south, what are your go to products for surviving heat and humidity?
