As a new Georgia resident, I am really looking forward to representing the 2018 Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and 5K as a race ambassador! This past summer we relocated to Georgia, bought a beautiful house in a lovely town just between Savannah and Fort Stewart, and are finally settling into our new routines, new jobs, and new running routines! Yes, this last part is a little more challenging than I hoped but I am finally feeling optimistic about the road ahead.
With that, I hope you consider adding the 2018 Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and 5k to your spring race calendar. This will be my first spring in the south but I’m guessing it is going to be the perfect time to race before the summer heat rolls around again.
Here are a few exciting reasons to run the
2018 Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and 5k:
Race Course: Savannah is downright gorgeous and everything I thought it would be when I moved here. The tree-lined roadways are just dripping with Spanish moss! The race takes place throughout Savannah’s beautiful historic district. The course highlights the city’s best attributes and includes 12 squares! These squares are one of my favorite things about the city and they are filled with museums, churches, mansions, and monuments (oh my!). Take a look at the course map, for more details about beautifully flat course.
Pre & Post Race Festivities: Before the race, when you come in to town, you are welcome to join fellow runners at the Fashion Fitness Expo. The Fashion Fitness Expo will host packet pick-up for the race. Pick up your packet, enjoy some food samples, grab a free massage and ship until your heart is content. Feel free to bring your friends because the Expo is free and open to the public!

The finish line will bring runners right into beautiful Forsyth Park (Yes, that beautiful fountain in the image above is the hallmark feature of Forsyth). Your friends and race cheerleaders can join you for music, free beer, mimosas, and relaxation as you are in the midst of your post-race runner’s high. Plus, if you have children in tow, there is a really fantastic playground to keep them entertained!

Bling: Do I need to say anymore about these beauties? As I mentioned before, when I think of this city, the gorgeous tree-lined streets of historic downtown immediately come to mind. The finisher medals are the perfect nod to the beauty of Savannah.
Food and Shopping: Savannah is a little bit of a foodie town if you ask me. And, I love it! Many times we head into Savannah with no plan other than the sole purpose of trying a new restaurant. You can happily eat your way through downtown! And, since I am known to have a bit of a sweet tooth, Byrd’s cookies and Leopold’s Ice Cream parlor are a few must try tourist stops. Lastly, let’s not forget that you can get your post-race partying on at any of the local drinking establishments 😉 For those of you coming in from out-of-town, yes, there is a city law that allows you to stroll Savannah’s Historic District with an open container. And, yes, it is a very pedestrian friendly town.

This is a race that’s on my bucket list for sure. This year, it won’t happen, but thinking I need to pencil it in for 2019.
The course sounds great and the finish line festival sounds even better. Not to mention that bling! Nice for sure.
Let me know if you drive up next year! THANKFULLY, we won’t be moving for at least another year so I will get to repeat this race in 2019!
