Add a Little Spice

Thursday I decided to go for a 4 mile run.  To spice it up a little bit, I decided to try and add a little speed  into the mix. My workout looked like this:  I ran 3.5 miles, took a minute break, ran a quarter mile at full effort, took a 30 second break, then finished with another quarter mile at full effort. Miles:  3.5Time:  31:30Pace:  9:00 Rest 1 minute Miles: .25Time:  1:38Pace:  6:35 Rest 30 seconds Miles:  .25Time:  1:39Pace: {Read More}

Stay Safe Out There

Yesterday, I heard about the death of a runner from my hometown of Norwalk, CT.  It saddens me to hear the story but it also serves as a reminder to be a vigilant road runner. A couple reminders:-  Run against traffic as it allows you to observe oncoming cars and allows for some reaction time;-  Don’t wear headphones so that you can hear your surroundings;-  Look both ways before crossing intersections;-  Make eye contact with drivers;-  Carry identification or write your {Read More}

Wednesday’s Run - March 28, 2012

I have no patience, well, not a lot of patience.  So it should come as no surprise to those of you that know me to hear that I didn’t wait out the issue with the shins.  I wanted to see how my legs felt running again so I popped into the gym for a bit this afternoon. I warmed up with 10 minutes on the elliptical.  Man, I forgot how brutal ten minutes of hills can be on that thing! {Read More}

Tuesday’s Run - March 27, 2012

Yesterday I went to the park for my run and after about a half mile, my shin was on fire.  I stopped running after a mile and a half because it is not worth it to get hurt right now. Miles:  1.5Time:  13:21Pace:  8:54 Tuesday night I iced my leg and stretched out with the foam roller.  It was challenging to do this with the Tupler splint so I had to enlist the help of my hubby.  Not too sure {Read More}

Week 3: Day 1 - The “Mummy Tummy” Diaries

Today I had my second session with my Tupler Technique® therapist.  I was reassured that I am not the only one that has a love hate relationship with my splint.  Thank you!  She also reviewed my technique for the first two exercises.  It was really helpful to have her give pointers on how to maximize my efforts with these techniques.  After trying out the exercises sitting, standing, and against the wall, I think I might get more out of the workouts if {Read More}

Week 2 COMPLETE: The “Mummy Tummy” Diaries

I am still adjusting to life with the splint.  I do not like it one bit.  It is still interfering with my sleep and I wake up cranky.  I want to quit this program more than I would like to admit.  So with being a bit of a “negative Nancy”, I also have to confess that I cheated myself out of a few workouts.  All excuses aside, I missed three workouts.  Missing one set of the program a day doesn’t feel like {Read More}

Prematurity Sucks 5k

After coming in contact with Rhonda of Slow Mother Runner, I realized that she was hosting a virtual 5k called Prematurity Sucks in support of the March of Dimes.  After reading her story, I decided it was definitely a cause that I wanted to support. Yesterday, I made my donation and ran for the babies!  Running a virtual race was a lot harder than I thought.  I didn’t have quite the motivation I do when out on a course with {Read More}

I’m Selfish

While having the rare afternoon to myself today, I decided to browse through Train Like a Mothe:  How to Get Across Any Finish Line - And Not Lose your Family, Life, or Sanity.  Boy did I feel like this particular section was speaking LOUD and clear to me: “If it sounds like training is self-centered and narcissistic, it completely is.  But if you’re like 95 percent of the mothers out there, you deserve - and are in definite need of {Read More}

This week we celebrated Cora’s half birthday in Maine as she turned 18 months!  Where does time go?  Of course there was no better way to celebrate than by making some cupcakes 🙂 Then yesterday was my best friend Niki’s birthday!  And again, we celebrated with cupcakes 🙂 Delicious Treats from Cupcakes Actually Acknowledging the amount of cupcakes I HAD to eat this week makes me realize that I need to get my butt to the gym and hit the road {Read More}
