Sweet Treats!

One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is make sweet treats for my family and friends. This year, I made candied pecans, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate chip cookies, and my favorite… sugar cookies!

So today, I thought I would share my sugar cookie recipe in case you are in need of a last minute recipe. These cookies aren’t too sweet and just the right consistency. Just be sure to keep an eye on them once they are in the oven! They don’t take long to bake and you do not want these beautiful cookies to burn.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

1 1/2 cups of softened butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

1.) Cream butter and sugar until smooth
2.) Beat in eggs and vanilla
3.) Stir in flour, baking powder and salt
4.) CHILL (at least one hour or overnight)
5.) Roll out dough (1/4-1/2 inch thick)
6.) Cut into shapes and add sprinkles
7.) Place cookies on ungreased cookie sheet
8.) Bake 6-8 minutes (watch carefully!)
9.) Cool
10.) Enjoy!

As you can see, I like to add festive sprinkles to my cookies before I pop them in the oven. But, you can also use icing if you prefer! Plus, these cookies are the perfect sweet treats for gift giving. So, wrap up a few cookies in a decorative bag or pop them in a tin to take them along to all of your holiday gatherings.
