Lottery Luck

After running Marine Corps last October, I had a feeling that I was going to run another marathon {Jake and Niki, I think you called this moments after I finished MCM}. Now, I didn’t really mentally embrace this idea of running another marathon until recently but since everything sells out at the drop of the hat these days, I wanted to be prepared if I did have the itch to run another 26.2. In December, a month out from MCM and even though I was still in the midst of my breakup with running, I signed up for the New York City Marathon lottery. My logic? We recently moved to New York and will only be here for a few years. I figured I might as well start attempting to get into this race since it is know to be a tough lottery. Total runner logical, yes?

Then, on March 15th, at 10:00am, I pressed submit on the registration form and officially entered the lottery for Marine Corps Marathon. It was a very last minute decision to throw my ring in the hat. At this point, I definitely knew I wanted to run another marathon this fall and I became freaked out about the NYCM lottery. I did the only thing that a runner would do and entered two lotteries for one season. More runner logic, right?

On March 19th, at 5:20pm, I received e-mail confirmation that I was officially IN for the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon. I was shocked yet so relieved to have a fall marathon on the calendar.

And, on March 26, 2014, the marathon lottery fairies provided me with a confirmation e-mail that I was IN for the 2014 New York City Marathon.

Hello lottery luck! Moral of the story? Runner logical clearly got the best of me. But, at least I will definitely be running a marathon this fall. Now, the question is, which race do I want to run. I am seriously struggling with this decision and would love to hear your thoughts! And, hey, I guess this means that I will have a race all set for next year too since I will definitely be deferring one of these entries. At least I am not crazy enough to run both of these races in one year 😉 Right?

Who’s running a fall marathon? Which one? And, please vote NYCM or MCM!

Lisa
