Our World: What makes us Wholesome

Just about four years ago, I was preparing for two major life events, the birth of my daughter and the deployment of my husband. Unfortunately, those events were set to coincide with one another. Thankfully, Jake was able to stay behind and rejoin his squadron two weeks after the birth of our daughter, Cora. I’m still so grateful that we had those two weeks and that I was able to have Jake there in the hospital to support our newly expanded family. But, saying goodbye to him was one of the hardest moments I have experienced as a military spouse. To keep Jake involved, I made it a priority to send as many videos and photos as I could. I also remember getting home from work in the afternoon and immediately hopping on Skype in order for Cora to see Jake and hear his voice.

I wanted to make sure that his presence was as strong as possible despite being so far away from home. And, when we were reunited nine months later, our family was whole again. And, those two are as thick as thieves ever since!

Now, as we get ready to celebrate Cora’s fourth birthday, I can’t help but be thankful that we are stationed at West Point as my husband teaches at the United States Military Academy and have the opportunity to spend three years together, free from deployments. It’s so much fun for me to be able to leave work, pick-up Cora from daycare, and then meet Jake for a walk taking in the sights at Trophy Point, watching the cadets on the parachute team jump from the helicopters, or just hanging out and talking about our days.

In order to have our afternoon adventures, an on the go snack is a must! And, since Cora has a little bit of a sweet tooth like her mom, Honey Maid Teddy Grahams, Grahamfuls, and Graham Crackers are a perfectly wholesome treat for us to grab on the go. While they are a sweet treat, it’s nice to know that these Honey Maid snacks contain whole grains and no high fructose corn syrup.

While I was pregnant with Cora, Honey Maid Graham Crackers with peanut butter was my go-to evening snack. So, it’s not surprising that Cora also enjoys these graham crackers as much as I do!

But, when I asked Cora to pick her favorite of the three, she said that she really loves the S’Mores Grahamfuls, since “shmarshmellows” are one of her favorite things on the planet. Now, while I will agree that the s’mores flavor is pretty tasty, mommy and daddy tend to really love the Honey Maid Peanut Butter and Chocolate Grahamfuls. That combination never fails!

The way she looks at her daddy simply makes my heart melt! As a military family, I know that these days won’t last forever and we will likely spend some time apart in the future; but, in the meantime I just want to soak it all in.

“No matter how things change, what makes us wholesome never will.”

Tell me, have you had any of the Honey Maid Teddy Grahams, Grahamfuls or Graham Crackers? What makes you and your family wholesome?

  2. I love the pictures of Jake and Cora! Those should be featured in a Honey Maid commercial. They're perfect. I love sitting out by the fire and making s'mores with the cinnamon graham crackers. Delicious!! I was also doing cinnamon/peanut butter graham cracker sandwiches for breakfast- it's the easiest thing to make in the morning- you know I never have a moment to spare!

  3. Precious pics! My 3 year old loves Teddy Graham's chocolate chip!
