Five Ways to Win at Winter Running with Lucy

Five Ways to Win at Winter Running with Lucy

With the longest night of year behind us, we are now entering the months of the polar vortex. Okay, that sounds terrible and for me, it is. Truth be told, I hate winter. And, while living at West Point, there is grey, grey, and more grey surrounding us. Yet, despite the cold temperatures, there is something oddly warming about running in the winter months.

Here are the five reasons that I convince myself out of a warm cozy bed during the winter months:

1. There is absolutely nothing like being the first person to lay footsteps on fresh snow. I don’t care how much you hate winter, trees dusted with powder and a fresh coat glistening off the mountainside is just a stunning sight to see.

2. Winter running is far better than staring at a wall. Don’t get me wrong, the treadmill has its place, like those steamy summer months, getting home after dark or dealing with ICE. But, if I can get outside, I most certainly prefer the fresh air to the whirring of the treadmill belt and the lovely scenery of our home office, aka the location of my treadmill.

3. You might just run faster. For me, cool temperatures means speeding things up. These are the temperatures I dream of while slogging through humidity and summer miles.

4. You are building mental toughness! Just think about how much easier that spring training and those races will be if you put in the hard work during the winter months!

5. With the right gear, it’s not as bad as you might think! No doubt, that first mile will always be the worst. But, as long as you have the right moisture wicking gear on your side, you will be warm in no time. And, I have to say that Lucy offers a wonderful line of winter running gear to help keep you off the treadmill.

Here are five ways YOU can amp up your winter running with Lucy!

I’m wearing the Lucy Keep the Pace Half Zip, Endurance Run Tight, & Winter Warrior Vest.

After taking these photos, I ended up heading for the trails. I have to say, that this outfit held out perfectly on this run and others. I honestly can’t believe that this was my first time wearing a vest while running. It’s genius for winter running! I really liked that I didn’t have the bulk of a jacket but kept my core warm. The Endurance Tights were equally as comfortable. No chaffing in sight and they kept my bottom half comfortable for several miles. And, between the vest and the tights, I had lots of extra storage for my phone and keys. With such an awesome experience, I plan to add more Lucy items to my running wardrobe in the future! I already bought a few pieces as Christmas presents…. Shhhh!

So, tell me, which piece of Lucy gear would you like to add to your winter running collection? Do you enjoy winter running? What is your favorite part about it?
