Peaks and Valleys: Adventures in Training Week 5, 6 & 7

It’s time for me to share Peaks and Valleys: Adventures in Training Week 5, 6 & 7, my third series of training logs from 2015. This recap is definitely delayed as I intended to have this posted on February 9th! Whoops. So, now instead of a two-week recap, you have a glance at three weeks thanks to being terribly, horribly sick starting on February 2nd. There was zero running from me happening. And last week, I was finally able to slowly add miles back in.

Peak of the Week{s}:

I am finally up and running again. As of today, I feel like I can breathe on the run and the congestion has lifted. When I first started back, I used a run/walk combination to keep the coughing at a minimum and just yesterday I ran 4 whole miles without hacking! Now, I can run without feeling like I have an elephant sitting on my chest. Woohoo!

Valley of the Week{s}:

After a week of no running and a week of barely any running, I am really worried about the upcoming Glass Slipper Challenge coming up this weekend. The Glass Slipper Challenge consists of a 10k on Saturday and a Half Marathon on Sunday at Walt Disney World. I am going to have to slow it down since my fitness just isn’t there right now. I know that it isn’t the end of the world and that it is as good a race as any to take slow, especially with the characters and scenery, but I don’t like not being able to be at a 100% for race day. And, to be honest, I am still contemplating just backing out of the half altogether. I’m going to see how the 10k feels and then make a decision from there.

Have you ever been sick so close to a major event? Did you still run or did you decide against it? Anyone else headed to the most magical place on earth this weekend?

Lisa
